Old School Love with ASOS

Time flies when you're having fun! This is the final installment of the "Colors of Love" collaboration with Bianca of Curvaceously Bee. I've had a great time bringing you all colorful looks for your fun events this month and beyond. I hope you've enjoyed the ride as well. Stay tuned for more great things from BBDF!

This week I'm featuring a dress I got from ASOS a little while ago. I didn't realize how much of throwback this dress would be until I put it on. I know it's not necessarily designed to be a retro dress but it just is to's the sleeves actually. The kimono style sleeves remind me of bell bottoms (flare pants), and when I put it on I instantly felt like I was transported back to the 70s. So I threw on my Pam Grier hair and thick gold accessories and just went with it!

This is a dress that you have to envision how you'll look it. I know we always have to do that, but this time you really have to see it before you see it. If you go simply by the picture on the website it might look a little unexciting, but baby let me tell you...if you've got curves for days then this dress is going to take you on a curvycation ("curvy vacation"...come for the fashion, stay for the corny jokes!).

Seriously though, my hubby loves this dress and the curvitude is obviously the reason. It's got stretch and a little silky shine. It has ties in the back as shown on the website and also in the neck area which for some reason do not appear in the picture on the site. Add a ruched front for a little flavor & accent around the waist and you have the perfect dress for any fun night filled with love, peace & soul!

Dress: Club L Plus Kimono Maxi Dress
Clutch: Fashion To Figure (find similar)
Shoes: Christian Siriano for Payless (my new favorite that I've been pairing with everything lately!)

*Styling/shopping notes: ASOS is based in the UK so they show their sizes in UK/US. I'm wearing a US 18 and it runs true to size US sizes. If it had been available, I would have purchased a size 20, but since I know my body well I knew I could get away with an 18. They ship out orders quickly so I received my package about three days from when I placed my order (Awe.Some.) If you believe in wearing "smoothies" like me, then prepare to pull out your best shape wear with this dress since it's designed to hold you close.

  1. Hi love the dress. What shape wear are you wearing if you dont mind me asking?

    1. Hi! I wear Spanx mostly. If you search the blog using "Spanx" you'll see a post I did last year sharing my view of shapewear & what I typically wear.

      Thanks for reading!

  2. I have shapewear pants but I feel I can´t breathe whenever I wear them xD xx Kelly Longo

    1. Lol! Yeah, some of them can feel very restricting. But I've been wearing Spanx for a while now, so I've got used to how they hold me in the right places. ;)
