Five Finds for Formal Plus Size Fashion

(stock image/morgueFile)
Can you believe it's the end of September already? I'm still trying to sort out my feelings about the weather changing, although where I live it's confusing and frustrating since it's hot, then cold, then hot again. But so goes the beginning of autumn and ultimately, the final quarter of year (we're just four short months away from 2016...triple wow on that one).

If you've been following the blog (which of course you have), I've been gently warning you that you'll need to start looking for the perfect fancy frock sooner or later. So if you're more on the sooner side here are four designers and one retailer that offer fabulous formal wear for the plus size 'bella donna' (in random order):
Sydney's Closet (near you)
Jovani (near you)
Terani (near you)
Jasz Couture (near you)
David's Bridal (near you)

I've written about my admiration of Sydney's Closet here, here, and here. The fact that they are exclusively plus size is near and dear to my heart. The other designers and retailer listed here all offer plus sizes, but there's something about the story behind how Sydney's Closet came to be that resonates with the women in the market for full figured formal wear. Since they cater specifically to the plus size community, their dresses and gowns tend to run true to size. They also offer up to size 40 which puts them just about in a league of their own when it comes to evening wear. Be sure to read my posts on three of their red hot gowns and stay tuned for more as I certainly look forward to showcasing more of their beautiful designs on the blog.

I own a Jovani gown and I've admired their designs since purchasing my dress years ago from a local boutique. I follow them on Instagram and almost always swoon over the gorgeousness that comes across the page. The designer is not exclusively plus size, but they do go up to size 24 in most, if not all of their gowns. If you haven't seen their selections, check out their website and social media pages for more of their breathtaking gowns and dresses.

I found Terani and Jasz Couture just recently, but they pretty much mirror Jovani in my book. The three are not exactly alike; however, they share an overall aesthetic of high fashion glam (which I love) in their designs. Also similar to Jovani, Terani and Jasz offer plus sizes up to 24.  The differences between the three designers makes it worth checking out all of them to see which one will become your favorite, and it could turn out to be all three!

Now you might be a little surprised to see David's Bridal on the list, but you shouldn't be. Though it's in the store's name, the retailer isn't just there for wedding dresses (I bought mine there 10 years ago...still love it!). Many bridal retailers offer formal wear for all special occasions, so it would behoove the plus size fashion lover on the hunt for an evening dress to look at D.B. or their local bridal shop. The great news about David's Bridal is in addition to offering sizes up to 26W, they often run promotionals so you might be able to score a dress at a discount....never a bad thing!

This list is far from exhaustive...in fact I'll be back with more places to final elegant evening wear that is also uber-affordable.  And let me know where you shop for formal wear...we're in this thing together baby!
